Zurich, Lucerne and Jungfrau

15 05 2008

Another long weekend due to the Whit Monday holiday and hence decided to visit Switzerland. I took an ICE train from Frankfurt to Basel, and then from Basel to Zürich. The whole journey took 4 hrs. Zurich, with the lake Zurich is a city famous for its bankers and the high standard of living (things are really expensive there). Nothing much about Zurich but if you haven’t been there before, it’s worth to visit once.

From Zürich, I joined a tour with Grayline to Jungfraujoch. We reached Lucerne after 1 hr drive from Zürich where you can see the lion bridge (the most famous Lucerne attraction) and another hour from Lucerne to Interlaken. From Interlaken, we took a train up to Jungfraujoch (known as the “Top of Europe”), which took around close to 2 hours. The train ride was extremely scenic and I would say it is one of the most interesting train ride in the world. I need not say much of Jungfraujoch, just 1 word – beautiful!

– Jungfraujoch has high altitude hence do walk slowly to avoid getting altitude sickness.
– Try out Swiss fondue and rosti in Switzerland
– I recommend that you join a tour up to Jungfraujoch. It is hard to buy the train tickets yourself as most are grabbed by tour agents.
